PreK: 4 & 5 Year Olds

In PreK our main focus is Kindergarten readiness.  We expect that upon entering PreK children already have the social and emotional skills that allow them to focus on a more structured and regimented day that includes seat work, writing centers, and small group work as all of these activities will be implemented in Kindergarten as well.  We want to set PreK students up with the knowledge and readiness it takes to enter and succeed in Kindergarten.

Students who graduate from PreK will be able to read and write their own first and last names, recognize letters and identify their sounds.  They will be begin learning basic sight words and other beginning math concepts as well.

We still have outside times in this classroom so that we are able to enjoy our large and unique playground that is also home to our chicken coop, goat pen, butterfly garden, and our unique play equipment, including a pirate ship, wooden play tractor, wooden train, hobbit house, and so much more.

Room Capacity: 26
Teacher to child ratio: 1 to 10

Our Curriculum

We use the Keystone STARS approved "Creative Curriculum" which we also pair with the Pennsylvania Learning Standards for Early Childhood to ensure kindergarten readiness.  We also have adopted a second curriculum, "Early Sprouts," which places an emphasis on healthy eating habits to establish a foundation for lifelong health and nutrition.  With this curriculum we have added an outdoor classroom garden which the children plant, care for, harvest, and eat from.  We also have a chicken coop which the children are responsible for feeding, watering, and collecting the eggs from, which we also eat.  They are not only learning about healthy eating habits and where their food comes from but also responsibility.
